Angela McDowell

Director and Senior Conservator | A M Conservation Ltd

Angela McDowell is an art conservator and business director with over 20 years of professional experience in the United Kingdom and the United States. She holds an MA in Conservation of Fine Art, specialising in Easel Paintings, from Northumbria University and a First Class Honours degree in Furniture Restoration and Conservation.

Her practice encompasses the conservation of easel paintings, historic furniture, wooden sculpture, gilded frames and related works of art, combining technical examination, traditional craftsmanship and an informed, ethical approach to conservation.

As Director and Senior Conservator of A M Conservation Ltd, based in Durham, Angela leads both studio-based treatments and large-scale, on-site conservation projects involving historic interiors, heritage collections and significant works of art.

Her experience includes specialist conservation consultancy, collaboration with architects and heritage professionals, collection decanting, conservation planning, complex object handling and preventive conservation during major building restoration programmes.

Having established and directed conservation practices in both the United States and the United Kingdom, Angela has worked with private collectors, heritage organisations and institutions. Her professional experience also includes advising on historically accurate materials and traditional restoration techniques for television productions.

In 2023, Angela co-founded the Professional Conservators of Ireland (PCOI), supporting professional exchange, specialist training and collaboration within the conservation community.
